ICE RINK OPENS THIS WEEKEND
SKATERS INVADE THE FOUR SEASONS ARENA
Great FallsSkating enthusiasts and those who want to learn will take to the ice this weekend as Montana ExpoPark opens the doors on its winter ice skating schedule. Beginning Friday, the main ice rink in the Four Seasons Arena will be open to the public for hockey, ice skating, lessons and more.
We have a busy schedule lined up for this season, said Tenlee Atchison, ExpoPark ice activities supervisor. On Friday, youth hockey begins practice at 5 p.m. and freestyle figure skating is scheduled from 8 9 p.m.
Atchison said her goal this year is to increase the publics interest in skating. This is a great family sport, she said. Lessons are available to all ages and abilities and you can rent your skates. It can be a very affordable family investment. Atchison added that this past week, more than 3,000 flyers were distributed to school students in the Great Falls area.
As a preview, on Saturday, October 4 Montana ExpoPark will host a free learn-to-skate clinic with sessions from 11 a.m. noon; 12:15 -1:15 p.m.; and 1:30 2:30 p.m. Great Falls Amateur Hockey Association will also register applicants Saturday from 10 a.m. 3 p.m.
In addition to lessons and youth hockey league, Montana ExpoPark offers hockey/skating camps, figure skating competitions, ice shows, adult hockey leagues (with less than ambiguous names such as Ice Bandits, Silver Foxes, Great Falls Selects and Rink Rats), holiday parties, birthday parties and a generous amount of public skating.
